Julienne Lusenge, DRC Human Rights Defender at Maison de la Paix

Women@TheTable is honored to welcome Julienne Lusenge to the Maison de la Paix for a Public Discussion Tuesday 20 October, 12:30 - 14:00.

Julienne is President of Fonds pour les Femmes Congolaises, (FFC), a national women's fund to support grassroots women’s groups in the DRC implement powerful and culturally specific projects to fight impunity, promote justice and women’s participation in all decision- making fora. FFC is  one of four implementing partners (and sole local partner) of The Women’s Platform an initiative of Mary Robinson, the former UN Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region of Africa and the formal mechanism for the inclusion of Congolese women in the realisation of the peace accord that covers the DRC, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

Ms Lusenge is a founder and the Board Chair, Solidarité Féminine pour la Paix et le Développement Intégral, (SOFEPADI), which Provides a holistic and integrated approach to supporting women survivors of violence with medical, psychological services, and legal services as well as leadership and skills to enable survivors to become victim advocates for other women. It also provides skills training to economically empower women and awareness raising with communities to enable them to be reintegrated into their villages as agents of change. Many come back full circle to SOFEPADI as trainers or paralegals helping other women survivors of violence. Julienne Lusenge sits on the Advisory Committee of the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict. She has been internationally recognized for her work, receiving the Human Rights Award from the Embassy of France in 2012, and the French Legion of Honour on Bastille Day, 2013.
