Dr Michael Kimmel in Geneva & Zürich
Women@theTable brought Dr Michael Kimmel, recently called 'the world's preeminent male feminist' by The Guardian, who is the Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities at Stony Brook University, where he is also Distinguished University Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies to Switzerland for a series of events to explore gender equality and why and how it benefits everyone...men included.
Men, Women, & Leadership in the 21st Century Panel in Zürich
We began in Zürich with an event we co-hosted with Advance: Swiss Women's Network, on Men, women, & leadership in the 21st century at McKinsey with Special Guest panelists Rebecca Guntern, CEO of Sandoz Switzerland, and Clive Bellingham, PwC Global Board Member who had a lively discussion about their coming to embrace equality in the workplace.
Breakfast w/ Saatchi & Saatchi in Geneva
Down to Geneva! First: breakfast with the Saatchi & Saatchi creative team, working with Women@theTable and International Gender Champions, who have volunteered their time and brilliance to try and crack how to sell the idea of gender equality as an aspiration for both men & women. Sterling discussions!
Salon on Men, Power & Organizations
Then to the US Mission for a sit down luncheon Salon hosted by Ambassador Hamamoto and Women@theTable for 35 Ambassadors and Heads of International Organizations. The topic?
Men, Power, and Organizations.
Following the success of the Barbershop Conference at the Palais earlier this year, the final event of our “2016 Salon Series” aimed to bring together Geneva Gender Champions for an interactive discussion about men’s roles and responsibilities in promoting gender equality. Kimmel dealt with gender issues being tied in with men’s identities, how power is configured and how it is projected inside organizations.
Each table then discussed how and when they realized that there was systemic discrimination against women, and what they were doing in their work to combat it. Fascinating.
Radio Interview RTS
Quick stop for a radio interview with RTS:
La société américaine est plus attentive que jamais aux inégalités de genre
Les fameuses déclarations de Donald Trump sur les femmes qui avaient fuité durant la campagne présidentielle suscitaient un vif débat il y a quelques mois. Les propos et les attitudes sexistes sont au coeur du travail du sociologue américain Michael Kimmel, chercheur, spécialiste de la masculinité.

Then at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies in the main Auditorium our evening Event:

A frank, public conversation about how to transcend barriers and transform perceptions about equality, masculinities and feminism.
