Big Tech, AI and Feminist Digital Accountability

The growing influence of digital technologies and artificial intelligence is reshaping global narratives on gender, democracy, and justice in ways that are both accelerating and complicating accountability work. The datasets and design choices behind AI systems often reflect existing gender bias, shaping whose harms are recognised and whose are overlooked. Platform power asymmetries undermine survivor-led advocacy. At the same time, practitioners are developing innovative uses of digital tools for evidence preservation, pattern analysis, and cross-border coordination.

This session will move beyond general observation to focus on practical strategies. It will draw on concrete experience from practitioners who are currently navigating the digital landscape, including both its risks and opportunities. The session will examine how digital and emerging technologies are reshaping accountability work, the relevant power asymmetries in an extremely rapidly developing environment, but also balancing this with good practices including innovations embracing human rights, ethical, responsible approaches.
