CEO & Founder Caitlin Kraft-Buchman published an Opinion Piece on Devex, the leading independent news organization on Global Development, making the case for affirmative action on algorithms.
The column argues that artificial intelligence suffers from significant biases against women and marginalized groups due to the imperfect and biased data it is built upon, and advocates for affirmative action for algorithms to create more equitable and inclusive AI systems that reflect modern values. Despite growing awareness of these biases, political action remains weak.
There are three key calls for action for government, business, and civil society organizations:
- Establish accountability and transparency in AI through global guidelines and human rights assessments
- Bring gender balance to AI design and coding, encouraging diverse teams to mitigate bias
- Ensure international cooperation grounded in human rights
The goals is to develop AI systems that champion social justice and foster equality.
